Rufus C. Patrick, Music Director
Rufus attended Burlington High School and received his degree in Music Education at the University of Vermont. He began teaching in 1970 at Lamoille Union High School in Hyde Park, Vermont. He worked there with his mentor, the amazing music educator Robert C. Ianni. In 1974 Rufus returned to Burlington High School as music director. At Burlington he conducted the Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Pit Orchestra, Madrigal Singers and Pep Band. In 1987 he was the chorus director for "Project Harmony" that performed in Russia and Latvia. That year he also received the Teacher of the Year award for the Burlington School Department. In 1993 he was music director for the BHS production of "Guys and Dolls" that performed in Hamelin Germany. Rufus was manager for the All State, New England and All Eastern Choruses. He also served as president of the Vermont Music Educator's Association and the New England Music Festival Association.
Rufus conducted the pit orchestra for Hinesburg Community School musicals for 19 years. He was music director for the Lyric Theater’s “Singin’ in the Rain,” and the Stowe Theatre Guild’s “Hello Dolly,” “Music Man,” “Bye Bye Birdie,” and “Annie.” In 2013 Rufus was the music director for the premiere of "Bully Be Gone" in Stowe, VT. Rufus is the founder and artistic director of the Hinesburg Artist Series. He has been teaching and conducting for over 50 years and currently conducts the South County Chorus, the Hinesburg Community Band, In Accord, the Hinesburg United Church Choir, and the Wake Robin Singers. |
Evan Allen, Accompanist
Evan Allen is a keyboardist and teacher originally from Long Island, NY. A sought-after collaborator, he has appeared with ensembles across the U.S. and Europe. He holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Fred Hersch, Jason Moran and Bruce Brubaker. He is the organist and pianist of the First Baptist Church in Burlington, and is accompanist for the South County Chorus. Evan was last year's Dopp Organ Recital soloist. An active teacher, he currently has a large roster of piano students and resides in Richmond, VT. When he's not playing music or teaching he likes to cook and play chess.
